The VetMAX™-Gold MAP Detection Kit is a USDA-licensed PCR test that rapidly detects the presence of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) in the feces of cattle, enabling labs to consistently deliver accurate and actionable test results to their clients. The kit includes ready-to-use master mix for the detection of the MAP target, a positive control for MAP, and the Xeno™ Internal Positive Control, for additional confidence in results. The assay consists of a single-well (or single-tube) real-time PCR in which MAP DNA and Xeno control DNA targets are amplified and detected in real time using fluorescent TaqMan™ probes.
Features of the VetMAX-Gold MAP Detection Kit:
• Successful completion of the USDA licensing process, confirming the suitability of the PCR test for detection of MAP DNA in individual and pooled fecal samples
• Ongoing monitoring of the manufacturing site’s compliance with USDA manufacturing and product release regulations
• Ongoing quality monitoring through the serial release process
• Includes proprietary Xeno Internal Positive Control (IPC) to help provide additional confidence in results
• Part of a complete workflow tailored for MAP detection
• Improved sensitivity and faster results than culture: from feces to PCR results in ∼4 hours
• Technical support for seamless integration of the kit into the laboratory workflow
The VetMAX-Gold MAP Detection Kit demonstrates very sensitive and specific results that are highly robust. For the USDA licensing validation, individual and pooled bovine fecal samples of known MAP status were tested using the MAP workflow with excellent results:
• Individual samples: 96.2% sensitivity and 96.4% specificity
• Pooled samples (n=5): 96.2% sensitivity and 100% specificity
• Repeatability and reproducibility: 100% agreement across all testing labs, on all serials (batches), on all days
• Samples obtained from 9 different US states
Within the U.S., laboratories must receive authorization from their state veterinarian prior to ordering and using this kit for the diagnosis of myobacterium avium spp. paratuberculosis. Similar product use restrictions may exist in other countries, at the discretion of the relevant veterinary authority.
