MultiShot™ StripWell DH5α T1^R Competent Cells (Invitrogen™)

MultiShot StripWell DH5α T1^R chemically competent E. coli cells are cloning competent cells packaged in a rack containing 12 strips of 8 tubes to increase productivity for medium-throughput bacterial transformations. This strain is derived from the popular DH5α strain, one of the most frequently used laboratory cloning strains. All of our T1^R strains have the tonA (also known as fhuA) mutation in their genotype that confers resistance to T1 and T5 phages. A resistant genotype offers added security to protect valuable clones and libraries as T1 bacteriophage can rapidly spread among E. coli hosts and contaminate repositories.

DH5α T1^R for routine cloning applications
The DH5α strain is well-known and broadly used laboratory strain for chemical transformations as it is ideal for transformations of cloned unmethylated DNA. To increase productivity for medium-throughput bacterial transformations, the cloning competent DH5α T1^R E. coli cells are packaged in racks containing 12 strips of 8.

MultiShot StripWell DH5α T1^R Competent Cells include:
• hsdR for efficient transformation of unmethylated DNA from PCR amplifications
• lacZΔM15 for blue/white color screening of recombinant clones
• endA1 for cleaner preparations of DNA and better results in downstream applications due to the elimination of non-specific digestion by endonuclease I
• recA1 for reduced occurrence of non-specific recombination in cloned DNA
• tonA (fhuA) for T1 and T5 phage resistance 

MultiShot StripWell flexible format
Each StripWell of eight connected tubes is designed with the same single-tube, single-use features as our One Shot format tubes. This format allows all steps of the transformation protocol, up to plating, to take place in the same tube, saving time and reducing chance of contamination. After addition of DNA, MultiShot StripWell competent cells can be transformed by heat-shock at 42°C in a water bath without transfering to a new tube.

The StripWell tubes can also be cut to permit single transformations. This feature eliminates wasted aliquots and avoids needless freeze-thaw cycles that can result in reduced transformation efficiency.
